Aminat Yusuf Struggled Through School
Education is a necessity in today’s fast paced world. Although schooling can be an over exaggerated ritual that has come to stay yet who wouldn’t want to further his or her education? Even when it’s evident that schooling is not a yardstick for success or a fulfilled life, it is a significant tool for people’s uprising, intelligent quotient, personal well-being, and development.
Aminat Yusuf narrated how she lived on garri and groundnuts for most of the time during the second semester of her 200 level because she needed a browsing phone and training in computer skills. “I experienced some serious financial constraints during my two plus four years stay at LASU. “In 200 Level, second semester, just because I needed to get a browsing phone and get trained in computer skills, I saved up about 90 percent of my feeding allowance.”
Many other students can be going through situations worst than Yusuf’s ordeal, but it is the result of the struggle that matters in the end. It may be very challenging, whatever you have to go through either for your education or other pursuits, but don’t give in or give up on your goal. If you prove tough enough, you will outlast the tough situation.
She Resolved to Defy the Odds Through Hard Work
Aminat Yusuf, the law student who broke LASU’s 40-year-old record with her 5.0 CGPA also couldn’t afford hostel fees, she could have been shuffling school from home but that was an unbearable expense as she resulted in sleeping on the school premises.
In her words, “For the most part of my days as an undergraduate, I lived in the university premises, because I had no hostel, and going home every day would have been absolutely inconvenient. “The school had a stand-by security and standard lighting system, so, it was safe for me; my major challenge was having to attend lectures every day in a neatly ironed white and black dress, acting like everything was perfect.”
Tough times don’t last, tough people do. Aminat Yusuf didn’t allow her ordeal to stop her from pursuing excellence. One can only imagine all you went through, sleeping in school, feeding, and schooling with little or no money as a female student. Those things could really have been tough for Aminat, but guess what? She came through the tough times and now she is being celebrated.
The Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, awarded Aminat Yusuf a sum of N5m with an additional N5m from the State Government during the university’s 26th convocation for her outstanding feat.
What if she didn’t press through those tough times? Her story teaches the importance of resilience, determination, and consistency. She is currently taking up interships with renowned law firms to further her practice. Yusuf has decided to launch a YouTube channel, named learning Law with Aminat (LLA) to provide valuable lessons in all compulsory law courses as a aid to support legal education in the country.
