Bayero University, Kano, has presented a reviewed undergraduate calendar for the 2025/2026 academic session. The draft, placed before Senate for consideration and approval, sets out the schedule for screening, registration, lectures, examinations and breaks.
What the proposed BUK calendar shows
The proposed timetable begins with online screening for fresh students in March 2026. It then moves into registration for new and returning students, first semester lectures, examinations, a short break, second semester lectures, final examinations and the end-of-session break.
The schedule ends with the beginning of a new session on Monday, 15 February, 2027.
Fresh students’ screening and registration dates
Fresh students are first on the line in the proposed calendar.
- Online screening for fresh students: Monday, 2 March, 2026 to Saturday, 4 April, 2026
- Period: 5 weeks
After that, fresh student registration follows.
- Registration for fresh students: Monday, 30 March, 2026 to Saturday, 2 May, 2026
- Period: 5 weeks
Returning students also have a set window for registration.
- Registration for returning students: Monday, 4 May, 2026 to Saturday, 16 May, 2026
- Period: 2 weeks
First semester lecture and examination schedule
The proposed calendar gives 12 weeks for first semester lectures.
- First semester lectures: Monday, 18 May, 2026 to Saturday, 8 August, 2026
- Period: 12 weeks
The GSP first semester examinations come up next.
- GSP first semester examinations: Monday, 3 August, 2026 to Saturday, 8 August, 2026
- Period: 1 week
Main first semester examinations follow straight after that.
- First semester examinations: Monday, 10 August, 2026 to Saturday, 29 August, 2026
- Period: 3 weeks
Students then move into a short break.
- First semester break: Monday, 31 August, 2026 to Saturday, 5 September, 2026
- Period: 1 week
Second semester lecture and examination schedule
The second semester lecture period also runs for 12 weeks.
- Second semester lectures: Monday, 7 September, 2026 to Saturday, 28 November, 2026
- Period: 12 weeks
The proposed calendar fixes the GSP second semester examinations for one week.
- GSP second semester examinations: Monday, 23 November, 2026 to Saturday, 28 November, 2026
- Period: 1 week
That is followed by the main second semester examinations.
- Second semester examinations: Monday, 30 November, 2026 to Saturday, 19 December, 2026
- Period: 3 weeks
End-of-session break and new session date
After the second semester examinations, the calendar sets out an end-of-session break.
- End-of-session break: Monday, 21 December, 2026 to Saturday, 13 February, 2027
- Period: 8 weeks
The draft then places the beginning of a new session on:
