DELSU Convocation 2026: Dates and Rules

Delta State University, Abraka has announced the schedule for its 18th Convocation Ceremony for the 2024/2025 academic session.

The notice covers Regular, Sandwich, SLT, Weekend, Part-time, and Affiliate graduands. It also addresses parents, guardians, invited guests, and the general public. The programme includes the award of diplomas, admission into first degrees, award of higher degrees, prizes, the investiture of Professor Emeritus, and the conferment of honorary degrees.

The university has fixed the events as follows.

Collection of academic gowns and scrolls

Collection of academic gowns and scrolls will run from Monday, 20 April to Thursday, 30 April 2026.

The last date for the return of gowns is Monday, 4 May 2026.

Day 1: Friday, 24 April 2026

Jumat Prayers for Muslim members of the DELSU community.

Day 2: Sunday, 26 April 2026

Pre-Convocation Service at St. Paul Catholic Chaplaincy, Site II, Abraka Campus by 8.30 a.m.

Day 3: Tuesday, 28 April 2026

  • Vice-Chancellor’s Press Conference by 10.00 a.m.
  • Sports Activities, Novelty Match, by 4.00 p.m.

Day 4: Wednesday, 29 April 2026

  • Convocation Lecture by 10.00 a.m.
  • Convocation Drama by 4.00 p.m.

Day 5: Thursday, 30 April 2026

  • Founder’s Day Thanksgiving Service at Convocation Arena, Site III, Abraka Campus by 10.00 a.m.
  • Arts Exhibition by 2.00 p.m.
  • Alumni Day by 4.00 p.m.

Day 6: Saturday, 2 May 2026

Convocation Day will feature:

  • Award of Diplomas
  • Admission into First Degrees
  • Award of Higher Degrees
  • Investiture of Professor Emeritus
  • Conferment of Honorary Degrees
  • Award of Prizes

Instructions for graduands

Graduands who wish to collect academic outfits must deposit the original copies of their Statement of Results, where applicable, and show evidence of payment for hiring of the academic gown at their Faculty Offices.

These documents will be returned after the gowns are returned in good condition, not later than Monday, 4 May 2026.

Failure to return an academic gown within the stated period attracts a penalty fee of N500 per day.

Rules graduands should note

Graduands are expected to observe the following:

  • join the convocation procession by 9.00 a.m.
  • sit in the sections assigned to each faculty in the convocation arena
  • avoid unauthorised movement during the official ceremony
  • avoid taking photographs during the official ceremony
  • complete photographs and similar activities before entering the arena, or wait until after the ceremony
  • rise as the academic procession enters and leaves the venue
  • wear the proper academic robe and keep to the colour fixed for each faculty
  • begin and complete clearance in the College, School, or Faculty before the ceremony
  • provide an active email address for the student’s copy transcript

Instructions for postgraduate students

Postgraduate graduands, Doctorate and Master’s students, must be in their academic gowns and join the procession by 9.00 a.m.

They are to collect their brochures from the Secretary to the Postgraduate School.

Instructions for parents, guardians, and invited guests

Parents, guardians, and invited guests are advised to be seated at the venue before 9.00 a.m. on Convocation Day.

They are also expected to remain orderly and rise as the academic procession enters and leaves the Convocation venue.

DELSU convocation key dates at a glance

The full programme stretches across late April and early May 2026; the main ceremony holds on Saturday, 2 May 2026.

The gown collection period starts on 20 April 2026, while the final return date is 4 May 2026. That date matters for every graduand planning to avoid the daily penalty.
