FUTA Student Wins NCDMB National Essay Competition

Emmanuel Jesuferanmi Ojedele, a 200-level student in the Department of Architecture at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), has won the 2024 Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) National Undergraduate Essay Competition.

The competition featured over 2,000 undergraduates from across Nigeria.

Emmanuel defeated 10 other finalists to emerge the overall winner.

The award ceremony took place at the NCDMB Tower, Ox-Bow Lake, Yenagoa.

Emmanuel Ojedele received a cash prize of ₦1 million, a brand-new laptop, and a golden plaque.

Miracle Okoli, a 200-level Law student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, secured second place.

She received ₦750,000, a brand-new laptop, and a plaque.

Okogbe Mary, a 19-year-old Electrical student at Igbinedion University, Okada, came third.

She was awarded ₦500,000, a brand-new laptop, and a plaque.

NCDMB’s Commitment to Education

The Executive Secretary of NCDMB, Engr. Felix Omatsola Ogbe, congratulated all participants, particularly the top 10 finalists and the overall winner.

He was represented by the General Manager of Corporate Communications, Esueme Dan-Kikile.

Ogbe described the programme as an important educational intervention by NCDMB.

He said the competition promotes writing skills, awareness of local content, and citizen engagement among undergraduates.

He added that the essay competition matches the NCDMB Science Quiz Competition, which encourages STEM education in Nigerian high schools.

Organiser’s Statement

Mr Eyinimi Omorizi, Chief Executive Officer of Mahogany 21st Century Concepts Limited, highlighted the competitiveness of the event.

He stated that the top 10 finalists were selected after a rigorous evaluation of entries from over 2,000 students across Nigeria.

FUTA’s Response

The Vice-Chancellor of FUTA, Professor Adenike Oladiji, congratulated Emmanuel Ojedele on his success.

She described Emmanuel as a worthy ambassador of the university.

The Vice-Chancellor praised him for being a trailblazer in national and international competitions.

She commended Emmanuel’s achievement as a source of pride to FUTA.

FUTA continues to celebrate students who excel in academic and competitive activities across the country.
