Program Details
Duration and Purpose
The Pre-Degree Studies (PDS) Programme will run for one academic session, from October 2024 to September 2025. This intensive program is designed to help candidates with deficiencies in their O’Level results. It prepares them to re-sit for the examination and get ready for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for admission into 100-level degree programs at Lagos State University.
Location
The program will be held at the Lagos State University, Epe Campus.
Why Choose Pre-Degree Studies (PDS)?
Candidates who sit at home to write JAMB face stiff competition for admission. However, PDS students who pass their JAMB exams have a better chance of securing admission through the PDS quota provided by Lagos State University.
Admission Requirements
Criteria
- Candidates must have credits in at least three subjects from Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Government, Economics, Literature in English, Christian Religious Studies (CRS), Islamic Religious Studies (IRS), and Accounting.
- These credits must be obtained in no more than two sittings in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination, GCE, or NECO.
- Candidates meeting these requirements will be invited for a written qualifying examination.
Subjects Offered
- Mathematics

- Biology

Transition to 100 Level
To transition to the 100 Level, candidates must:
- Sit for the UTME and obtain the minimum JAMB cut-off mark for university admission.
- Comply with the university screening test requirements.
- Register for and pass WAEC and/or NECO exams to address any deficiencies in O’Level results.
Successful candidates will be eligible for allocation to 100-level courses in related faculties such as Engineering, Science, Management Sciences, Education, Social Sciences, Law, Agriculture, Transport, Mass Communication, Nursing, Dentistry, and the College of Medicine.
Programme Success
Despite the overall low-performance rate in the 2024 UTME, the PDS program recorded significant success. Exposure to rigorous teaching and CBT practice contributed to 79.7% of Pre-Degree candidates scoring 200 and above.
