The Fully Funded Max Planck Institute Journalist Fellowship in Germany offers the opportunity to engage with an international academic community and to gain deeper insights into fundamental questions and current problems of international law, European Union law, and public law, without the high pressure of daily deadlines on a freely chosen project.

The Fellowship enables journalists with several years of experience to spend three months in 2024 at the Institute. The time and duration of the stay (between March and November 2024) will be agreed upon individually. MPIL Journalists in Residence are free to pursue their own research. They are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to exchange ideas with our researchers and to participate in our various work and discussion formats. The Fellowship is geared towards freelance and staff journalists from all media (print, online, radio, television) who report and write regularly on legal and constitutional topics, or topics from politics, the economy, and research.

Scholarship Eligibility

The eligibility criteria for the Fully Funded Max Planck Institute Journalist Fellowship in Germany are stated below:

1. The Fellowship is geared towards freelance and staff journalists from all media (print, online, radio, television) who report and write regularly on legal and constitutional topics, or topics from politics, the economy, and research.

2. Internationals from any country in the world can apply.

Scholarship Benefits

The Fully Funded Max Planck Institute Journalist Fellowship in Germany will provide a monthly research grant of up to 3.500€, based on the fellows’ qualifications and experience, is offered for the duration of the stay. The Institute provides desk space and access to all research resources of the Institute’s library.
