Call for Applications

Emerging researchers are invited to participate and showcase their monumental achievements in the physical sciences. Five distinct prizes will be awarded across various disciplines:

1. NSPS PhD Thesis Prize in Chemistry
2. NSPS PhD Thesis Prize in Computer Science
3. NSPS PhD Thesis Prize in Earth Science
4. NSPS PhD Thesis Prize in Mathematics and Statistics
5. NSPS PhD Thesis Prize in Physics and Astronomy

The awards will be presented based on an amalgamation of application submissions and an intriguing three-minute thesis (3MT) competition.

Procedure: How to Apply

Prospective candidates are encouraged to take the following steps to be part of this esteemed recognition:

1. Register at the  NSPS Official Site and upload the requisite documents:
   • Academic profile
   • Curriculum Vitae
   • List of publications resulting from the PhD research work
   • Cover page of the PhD thesis
   • PhD certificate or statement of result
2. Those who meet the selection criteria will be informed and asked to upload a compelling 3MT video presentation of their research.
3. Members of NSPS will then cast their votes for the most impressive submissions through an e-voting system.
4. The heralded winners will be publicly announced and appropriately rewarded.

Eligibility

For the integrity of the awards, candidates must adhere to the following prerequisites:

1. Applicants should not be members of the NSPS Executive or Governing Council.
2. The PhD must have been awarded by a Nigerian university, with the crux of the research conducted within Nigeria.
3. The Senate must have confirmed the award of the degree by the end of December 2022.
4. The research scope should align with the physical sciences.
5. Research publications stemming from the PhD must have been published in a journal indexed in Scopus/Web of Science.
