  • Skirts and Dresses: Should extend to at least knee level, promoting a formal and respectful appearance.
  • Tops and Trousers: Acceptable tops paired with loose or non-altered jeans are recommended for a casual yet appropriate look.
  • Formal Attire: Blouses with gowns, skirt suits, kaftans, native dresses, and academic hats are encouraged for outdoor practical sessions.
  • Hostel Dress Code: Casual dresses are permitted within hostel premises, allowing for comfort and ease.
  • General Expectation: Cleanliness in attire is a must for all students on campus.

For Male Students:

  • Shirts: Long or short-sleeved shirts that cover the armpits, with or without a tie, are standard.
  • Trousers: Clean trousers are to be properly buttoned, maintaining a professional look.
  • Native and Formal Wear: Complete native attire and suits (two or three-piece) are deemed appropriate.
  • T-Shirts: Must be free of obscene inscriptions, ensuring respectability.

Prohibited Dress Styles

For Female Students:

  • Inappropriate Fits and Designs: Tight clothing, miniskirts, short pants, and clothes with obscene inscriptions are banned.
  • Revealing Attire: Backless tops, topless blouses, transparent clothes, and attire with high slits are prohibited.
  • Accessories and Hair: Multiple earrings, nose rings, long eyelashes, unkempt or weird hairstyles, and excessive makeup are not allowed.
  • Footwear and Extras: Bathroom slippers/slides and sun shades in inappropriate settings are forbidden.

For Male Students:

  • Disallowed Items: Mutilated jeans, face caps, earrings, sleeveless shirts, low-waist trousers, and sagging are against the dress code.
  • Hair and Grooming: Coloured hair, punk hairstyles, and unkempt appearances are unacceptable.

Penalties for Defaulters

Non-compliance with the dress code will result in:

  1. Classroom Bans: Erring students may be barred from attending classes by academic staff.
  2. Campus Security: Individuals dressed inappropriately may be denied campus entry.
  3. Administrative Restrictions: Defaulters cannot enter administrative offices for official business.
  4. Identity Card Confiscation: Student IDs may be impounded until the student reports to the Directorate of Student Affairs (DSA) for sanctioning.
  5. Community Service: Repeat violators face community service and referral to the Guidance and Counselling Unit for assistance.
  6. Further Sanctions: Persistent defiance will lead to sterner penalties as deemed fit by the Directorate of Students Affairs.

Note: Enforcement of these modified dress code rules commences as the school resumes for returning students and immediately after the matriculation ceremony for new entrants.

Federal Polytechnic Ilaro’s dress code policy is a testament to its dedication to fostering an environment of respect, discipline, and academic focus. By adhering to these guidelines, students contribute to a campus culture that values decency and professionalism, ensuring a positive and respectful learning atmosphere for everyone.
