University Of Port Harcourt Nuclear Security Science Postgraduate Certificate Program 2023/2024

The University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), through its Centre for Nuclear Energy Studies (CNES), is currently accepting applications from eligible candidates for admission into the Nuclear Security Science (NSS) Postgraduate Certificate Programme for the 2023/2024 academic session. Aims of the Programme
The main objective of the NSS Postgraduate Certificate Programme is to offer students a strong theoretical and practical grounding in nuclear security science. By incorporating internationally acclaimed curricula, the program aims to empower students with the essential skills to tackle and address current and future nuclear security challenges in Nigeria and neighboring regions. Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Nuclear Security Science.
Admission Criteria
To qualify for this program, candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of a Third Class Honours (or its equivalent Higher National Diploma (HND)) in Engineering, Sciences, or Medical Sciences from a recognized University or Polytechnic.
Notably, work experience in a related field may be considered in lieu of academic qualifications. Moreover, this opportunity is also open to qualified foreign students, with all courses taught in English.
It is advisable for candidates to undertake free pre-admission online modules from Texas A&M University (TAMU) in Basic nuclear and atomic physics, Nuclear fuel cycle, and Basic radiation detection. Program Duration and Schedule
The NSS Postgraduate Certificate Programme follows a modular structure, spanning 16 weeks. The program comprises 10 taught courses, and industrial visits, and requires students to submit an individual Term Paper. Each course entails 32 hours of lectures, followed by a 2-hour examination.
