RECOMMENDED: FRIEDRICH EBERT SCHOLARSHIP FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS
This scholarship, which covers all expenses, presents a chance for individuals from across the world to undertake their studies in Slovakia. It encompasses all academic fields and majors, making it possible for international students to study in Slovakia without any tuition fees. Importantly, there are no application fees associated with applying for this scholarship opportunity.

Please note that when determining the monthly scholarship amount for university teachers, researchers, and artists, only work experience up to the application deadline is considered, with Ph.D. studies counted as work experience but capped at six years.
The scholarship is designed to cover the living expenses of international scholarship recipients during their study, research, artistic endeavors, or teaching placements at Slovak universities and research institutions. Scholarship holders can seek assistance with accommodation and administrative procedures related to their stay in Slovakia either from their host institution or handle these matters themselves.

Scholarship recipients whose stay in Slovakia exceeds 90 days and who are citizens of countries outside the European Union, European Economic Area, and Switzerland, requiring a temporary residence permit for their stay in Slovakia, must submit a confirmation of good health to the foreign police office within 30 days of receiving the temporary residence permit. Scholarship holders will be reimbursed for the costs associated with the medical examination and the issuance of this confirmation, up to 250 EUR per scholarship holder, upon submitting the original bill from the relevant medical institution to SAIA, n. o., in Bratislava. The foreign police offices in Slovakia will provide a list of accredited medical institutions to scholarship holders. Failure to submit the bill within the final report submission deadline will result in the loss of the reimbursement right.
Travel Grant:
Additionally, students and Ph.D. students (eligible applicants under categories A and B) may receive a travel allowance (travel grant), a separate component of the scholarship, if applied for along with their scholarship application. The travel allowance is a lump sum paid to the scholarship holder at the end of their stay, together with the final scholarship payment. The amount of the travel allowance is determined based on the distance in a direct line between the applicant’s place of residence (permanent address or home institution’s address) and the location of their stay in Slovakia (the host institution’s address). The allowance is structured as follows:
Distance up to 200 km: 0 EUR
Distance over 200 km but not exceeding 300 km: 50 EUR
Distance over 300 km but not exceeding 500 km: 100 EUR
Distance over 500 km but not exceeding 1,000 km: 250 EUR
Distance over 1,000 km but not exceeding 2,000 km: 350 EUR
Distance over 2,000 km but not exceeding 3,000 km: 500 EUR
Distance over 3,000 km but not exceeding 5,000 km: 750 EUR
Distance over 5,000 km but not exceeding 7,000 km: 1,100 EUR
Distance over 7,000 km: 1,500 EUR.
Eligible Nationalities:
Citizens of any country in the world (except the citizens of Slovakia) can apply for a scholarship stay in Slovakia in the framework of the NSP.
Eligibility Criteria:
Eligible Candidates for NSP Scholarships:
A) Students who meet all of the following criteria:
Currently enrolled as university students at institutions located outside Slovakia.
Pursuing second-level higher education (master’s level) or having completed a minimum of 2.5 years of university studies in a similar program by the application deadline.
Planning to undertake a study period in Slovakia as part of their higher education outside Slovakia, having gained acceptance from a public, private, or state higher education institution in Slovakia for academic mobility. Please note that this category excludes doctoral (PhD) studies or their equivalent.
Duration of scholarship stay (for students): 1 – 2 full semesters (equivalent to 4 – 5 or 9 – 10 months) or 1 – 3 full trimesters if the academic year is divided into trimesters (equivalent to 3 – 4, 6 – 7, or 9 – 10 months).
B) Ph.D. students whose higher education or research training occurs outside Slovakia and who have been admitted by a public, private, or state higher education institution or a research institution in Slovakia with the capacity to offer doctoral study programs (such as the Slovak Academy of Sciences) for academic mobility aimed at studying, conducting research, or engaging in artistic endeavors in Slovakia.
Duration of scholarship stay (for PhD students): 1 – 10 months.
C) International university educators, researchers, and artists who have received invitations for teaching, research, or artistic residencies in Slovakia from institutions holding valid certificates authorizing research and development activities, excluding business entities, and with their headquarters located in Slovakia.
Duration of scholarship stay (for university educators, researchers, or artists): 1 – 10 months.

Ineligible Applicants for NSP Scholarships:
The National Scholarship Program does not provide support to the following categories of individuals:
International students and PhD students who have been accepted for full-degree higher education programs (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral studies) in Slovakia, or those who are already pursuing full-degree higher education in Slovakia and intend to finance their studies within Slovakia through the NSP.
University teachers, researchers, and artists who lack a Ph.D. degree (or its equivalent) and simultaneously possess more than four years of experience as a university teacher, researcher, or artist (with Ph.D. studies being counted as work experience). However, the Scholarship Program Administrator may, in special cases, consider candidates without a PhD degree (or its equivalent) and who have more than four but less than seven years of work experience, albeit offering scholarships at the level corresponding to applicants without a Ph.D. degree and less than four years of experience.
International applicants who have spent a cumulative total of 15 or more months in the Slovak Republic within the 36 months preceding the application deadline.
International applicants who are already receiving scholarships in Slovakia through other scholarship programs funded by public resources (e.g., International Visegrad Fund, Erasmus+, CEEPUS, bilateral agreements, etc.).
Note: Special considerations may be made for career breaks due to circumstances such as maternity or parental leave.
