A Brief Introduction To Abia State University

Abia State University Uturu is a Nigerian public university and a state university.

The university ranked 27th in the 160th Nigerian Higher Education and the second-best state university in Nigeria.

The institution was established by Sam Mbakwe when he was Governor of old Imo State in 1981.

However, the Uturu campus of the university was ceded to Abia State; and is now known as Abia State University Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area, Abia State, Nigeria.

The institution was established using the same collegiate system as the University of Nebraska and is now divided into colleges and schools.

Abia State University has two campuses, with its main campus in Uturu and its College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine located at the campus in Umuahia, the state’s capital.

The institution is approved by National Universities Commission (NUC), Nigeria.

It also offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate degrees.

ABSU School Fees for Indigenes and Non-indigenes

This is classified into three (3) departments which are:

1. Departments A 

Medicine and Surgery, Medical Lab Science, Optometry, Nursing Sciences, Law, Accountancy, Architecture, and Estate Management are N56,000

  • Acceptance Fee = N40,000
  • Development Fee = N20,000
  • Accreditation Fee = N20,000

2. Departments B 

Accounting, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Management, Economics, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Political Science, Mass Communication, History and International Relations are N52,000 respectively.

  • Acceptance Fee = N40,000
  • Development Fee = N20,000
  • Accreditation Fee = N20,000

3. Departments C

Other Courses which are not included in A and B above are N48,000.

  • Acceptance Fee = N40,000
  • Development Fee = N20,000
  • Accreditation Fee = N20,000

You should note that you must pay your school fees on time before the deadline.

Can The Tuition Fees Be Paid In Installments?

Except for Law, Engineering, School of Nursing, and Medicine, where you will pay the full payment of tuition fee, students may pay their school fees in full at the time of enrollment or in instalments before the deadline as permitted by the university.

Abia State University Admission Requirements For All Students

To gain admission into an Undergraduate Programme at ABSU is primarily under two (2) entry methods: the UTME Entry and the Direct Entry.

ABSU admission requirements through UTME:

1. Candidates must have reached the age of 16.

2. Candidates must have at least 6 (six) “Cs (Credits)” grades in their O’level result (s).

That must include English Language, Mathematics and three other subjects related to their course of study.

For example, a Candidate that wants to study law must have a “C” in English Language, Mathematics, Government/History, Economics and Literature in English.

3. Candidates must score at least 180 in the JAMB UTME examination to be offered admission into ABSU

4. Candidates must take the ABSU post UTME screening examination and must perform very well in the examination. (Depending on the course of study)

5. Not more than ONE sitting result is accepted for admission into the Abia State University (ABSU)

6. Candidates must choose the correct subject combination for their courses.

7. Lastly, candidates must meet the agreed cutoff marks for their courses to gain admission into the university.

ABSU Admission Requirements Through Direct Entry

Candidates who desire to gain admission through direct entry into the Abia State University (ABSU) must meet the following requirements:

1. Candidates must possess at least five (5) Credits in their O’level result. That must include English Language and Mathematics. However, two sitting results are not allowed.

2. Candidates must have also reached the age of 16.

3. Candidates are expected to get the JAMB Directly entry form from JAMB to apply.

4. Candidates should have any of the following certificates: OND, ND, NCE, IJMB, Cambridge A level, BSc, HND, and ICAN.

Abia State University Post UTME

ABSU Post UTME is N2,000 (Two Thousand Naira), and you must pay via the ADMISSION PORTAL.

Please also note that the fee is non-refundable. However, you will be required to pay appropriate bank charges.

ABSU Cut-Off Mark

ABSU’s cut-off mark is 180. To be eligible to write ABSU post UTME screening exercise, candidates must score up to the NATIONAL CUT-OFF of 180 and above in the JAMB examination.

Does ABSU Accept Second Choice Candidates?

ABSU accepts both first and second-choice candidates.

Can ABSU accept you if you score 150?

No, only candidates that score 180 and above are eligible to apply for ABSU post UTME.

What is ABSU Cut-Off Mark For Medicine and Surgery?

We recommend that you score at least 250 and above in your JAMB to stand a chance for admission.

Does ABSU Accept Awaiting Results?

Yes! ABSU accept awaiting result. The institution allows candidates awaiting their results to apply for the Post UTME screening exercise and offers admission.

How Much Are ABSU Hostel Fees?

You will have to pay N40,000 as a hostel accommodation fee.
