SSCE Series Part 27: Why Very Intelligent Students Fail
Be intelligent and you will pass Waec/Neco. This is what we have been told. However, intelligent students still fail Waec woefully. Don’t just be intelligent; be smart and very wise.
Now, If you are very observant, you would notice that those who fail or don’t perform well in waec and neco are the so called scholars you have always admired.
Sometimes you wonder, this guy is very intelligent; Why did he still fail waec. This girl use to teach me, but why did she not get the best result in Neco? The irony of life is that the race is not to the swift.
Irrespective of whether you are extremely intelligent or not, you can still fail any exam. This brings us back to the topic of today, why do intelligent people still fail waec/neco?
A simple reason why intelligent students fail waec and neco is simple; they refuse to follow instructions. They want to show that they know and have arrived. Meanwhile, waec/neco are not after you impressing them. All they care about is straight answers to their questions.

Another reason intelligent students fail Waec or Neco is that they don’t ask questions. They assume nobody is better than they are.
Most intelligent students read off point. They go outside waec syllabus and neco syllabus and start studying what is beyond the scope of waec and neco. This is their biggest undoing.
Finally, many intelligent students fail waec and neco because they are too fast in the exam hall and never take time to cross check. There is a big chance of making mistakes when you are in a hurry.
The best time to correct mistakes is cross checking your work before submission. But show off will not allow scholars sit their ass down and go through what they have written. Consequently they fail and begin to blame the exam bodies.
The good news is that you don’t need to be very intelligent before you can pass waec or neco. All you need is study what you are asked to and answer questions without beating about the bush. Ask questions anywhere you are confused.
That’s all for today on this topic. Do you have further questions? Feel free to drop your comments in the box below and don’t fail to share this with your friends.
