7 Life Changing Skills Students Must Learn

American International School Lagos

Updated: January 3, 2026 by FlashIsaac

Attending Classes and Seminars is super-easy; anyone can do it. Developing skills and habits that will help you succeed in life and destiny?  That’s a different story because not everyone is ready for that.

Hearing the word “SKILL” you would be expecting me to write about things like Welding, baking, tailoring, typing, blogging, web design, writing skills, technology, and so on. Well, I have discussed that right here.

There is more to life than meets the eye. Fortunately, there are plenty of great skills that make life easier. In today’s post, I’m going to introduce you to Seven essential skills that will be beneficial to you (if you don’t have them already).

1. Seek Help

Until you take a step, you cannot get help. What you don’t know is always senior to you.

Seeking help doesn’t mean that you are weak or dull. In fact, asking for help is a sign of strength. Don’t live like you know everything. The journey is too long that if you choose to go alone, you will end up a leper.

Seeking help is beneficial to you and also to others. It gives others the opportunity to show their talents and in turn, you will learn something new from them.

2. Mind Your Business In School

Learn to mind your own business. Do not interfere with the business of others since you will not want them to interfere with yours.

Wait for them to ask for your advice before you speak. Not minding your business leads to regret most times. Always mind your business in school. Remember, until you begin to mind your mind, nobody will mind you.

3. Keep Track Of Time

Time is one of the most important assets given to everyone equally. What you do with Time determines whether you will succeed academically or suck seeds.

Manage your time well so as to complete the important things every semester and academic session. Let me ask again, what is the most valuable use of your time right now?

4. Be Consistent In Studies

In my article on how to fall in love with mathematics, I laid emphasis on constant practice.

What you continually practice or do becomes part of you. For you to succeed in life, you must be consistent. Consistency in your academics and other productive activities makes you achieve your goals easily.

5. Learn To Speak In Public

One of the greatest fear of many people is being asked to speak in public. You fear being judged by your friends. You don’t want them to say that you messed up.

The truth of the matter is that one day you will have to do it.  As a matter of fact, if you want to be a leader, you must learn how to communicate. It is not too late to start.

6. Learn How To Cook

It is regrettably lugubrious that many students cannot cook. In fact, it is sardonic that a large percentage of them are females. A girl that cannot cook will end up as a knife, not a wife.

Your sex doesn’t matter at all. You must learn how to cook. This may sound funny, but it helps in the long run.

7. Learn Certain Tech Skills

I treated this in detail in my post on the essential tech skills you must learn as a student. These skills will really be of great benefit to you. I will advise you to read the article by clicking here
